Jerry M. Hobbs of Friendswood, Texas passed away on January 18, 2023 after a long fought battle of illnesses following a stroke, he was 84.

Funeral services will be held 12:00 p.m., Friday, February 3, 2023 at Emken-Linton Funeral Home in Texas City. The family will receive visitors at the funeral home from 10:30 – 12:00 p.m., prior to the services. Burial will follow at Forest Park East Cemetery in Webster, Texas. Reception for friends and family will immediately follow burial at Forest Park East Funeral Home.

Jerry Hobbs was born January 15, 1939 in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, son of Dr. & Mrs. Herschel H. Hobbs. After graduating with honors from Northwest Classen High School in Oklahoma City, Jerry went on to study at University of Oklahoma where he received a Masters Degree in Chemical Engineering.

Following graduation, he received a commission as an Officer in the Air Force. While stationed at Edwards Air Force Base, in the Rocket Propulsion Laboratory, Jerry developed a rocket fuel which was used for several years in the space program.

In 1964, at Edwards Air Force Base, Jerry met the love of his life, Jennifer aka “Cookie” and they married in 1966. They had two daughters, Sheri and Brandi. Last year, Jerry and Cookie celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary.

After leaving the Air Force, Jerry and Cookie moved to East Texas to begin his career as a Chemical Engineer with E.I.DuPont. There he worked developing materials used in the manufacturing of many types of products including Tyvek, Nomex, Qiana and Corian. After 34 years of employment with E.I.DuPont, Jerry retired as an IT Consultant.

Following his retirement, Jerry loved working on his computer and spent many hours in his office perfecting his day trading skills. He was listed on the Texas Register of Professional Engineers and he loved any and all things related to Information Technology.

Jerry was a World War II history buff and self-proclaimed War Bird enthusiast. As such, Jerry was a lifetime member of the Commemorative Air Force’s Gulf Coast Wing, where he spent many hours restoring, maintaining and touring with the Texas Raiders B-17 Flying Fortress. As a proud member of the “Texas Raiders” group, Jerry served as the flight engineer for the aircraft and always enjoyed traveling with the group to many air shows around the country.

In addition to his service with the C.A.F., Jerry enjoyed volunteering his time at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, proudly serving as a Committeeman on Corral Club’s Ticket Sales Committee. In 2019, after many years of volunteer dedication, Jerry achieved Lifetime Committeeman status with HLS&R.

Above all his many activities and accomplishments, Jerry was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and a kind, giving and loyal friend. He loved working on his “pride and joy”, his convertible 1966 Pontiac GTO, loved traveling with Cookie visiting fun exotic places and spending time with his children, grandchildren and his beloved fur babies.

Jerry is survived by his wife, Jennifer “Cookie” Hobbs of Friendswood, TX; his two daughters, Sheri Hobbs and domestic partner Matt Dillon, Brandi Hobbs and fiancé Robbie Thompson; four grandchildren, Tyler Schoonover and fiancé Jaci Skrabanek, Logan Dillon, Cody Hobbs and Hayden Hobbs. He was preceded in death by his parents.
