David Cantu

David M. Cantu, 65, of Texas City, TX, passed away peacefully on November 14, 2022 surrounded by his loving family.

David was born on April 24, 1957 to Andrea and Apolinar Cantu in Raymondville, Texas.

In 1975, David met the love of his life, Diana Canul, in Brownsville, TX and they married on November 28, 1981. David and Diana went on to have three children, David Andrew, Denise, and Danelle. His two grandsons, Wade and Kyle, brought so much joy to him, making him the PROUDEST Peepaw over the last eight years.

David strongly believed in and loved his family, his career, his Catholic faith, and his community. He spent the majority of his career in the Hardware, Oil Refining, and Chemical Production Industry working over the past 40+ years with pride and passion. He was known throughout his community for his vibrant personality and willingness to always lend a helping hand. David showed his huge heart by volunteering with the Texas City Housing Authority, Crime Stoppers, coaching numerous youth sports, and other various organizations.

David was an avid sports fan, especially rooting for his children’s sports teams, grandson’s soccer teams, and his favorite home teams, the Houston Astros and the Houston Texans. David rarely missed an Astros or Texans game whether he was cheering them on from his recliner or gathering with family and friends.

David was loved by so many. Through the years, David thoroughly enjoyed being around his family, friends, and coworkers more than anything. He loved providing for his family and making friends wherever he went. His positive outlook, generous spirit, great sense of humor, and kind heart, left an impression everywhere. He never met a stranger that didn't quickly become a friend; he always went out of his way to help anyone in need and had an incredible work ethic that will forever be remembered. David was authentically and wholeheartedly there for those in his life.

David will be missed deeply, but not forgotten. He is preceded in death by his mother, Andrea Cantu, his father, Apolinar Cantu, his brother, Robert Cantu, mother-in-law, Porfiria Canul, and father in law, Melecio Canul.

He is survived by his devoted wife and best friend, Diana Cantu, his son, David Andrew (Leah) Cantu, his grandsons, Wade and Kyle Cantu, his daughters, Denise (Grant) Lambert and Danelle (Garrett) Smith, as well as several siblings, nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and friends that will miss him dearly.
