Mary Zaragoza, 84, of Texas City, passed away peacefully at home and entered Heaven’s gate on Tuesday, June 27, 2017.

Funeral service will be 1:00 p.m., Friday, July 7, 2017 at St. Mary of the Miraculous Medal Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Mt. Olivet Catholic Cemetery in Dickinson. Visitation will take place from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m., Thursday, July 6, 2017 with a rosary at 7:00 p.m., both at St. Mary of the Miraculous Medal Catholic Church of Texas City. Her family will have a celebration of her life at St. Mary’s Ponzini Hall upon returning to the church following the graveside service.

Mary was born March 31, 1933 in Galveston, Texas and was the beloved wife of Placido (Pye) Zaragoza. They were childhood sweethearts and adored and loved one another for 71 years.

She is preceded in death by parents, Jesus and Ernestine Jimenez; siblings, Bertha, Ernestine, Joe, Jessie and Hector Jimenez. She is survived by her devoted husband, Placido Zaragoza; children, Tammy Barrier, Timothy (Tiger) Zaragoza and Thomas Zaragoza; son in law, Mitchell Barrier; cherished grandchildren, Peyton Barrier, Blake Zaragoza, Raylene Zaragoza and Brayden Zaragoza; her siblings, Josie Procella and James Jimenez. Mary retired from J.C. Penny’s after 39 years of service and was a lifelong member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. She was a caring and faithful wife, loving mother, adoring Gran Gran, giving sister and a gracious friend.

A mother’s love is something that no one can explain, It is made of deep devotion and of sacrifice and pain, It is endless and unselfish and enduring come what may - For nothing can destroy it or take that love away….

Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die, and whoever lives by believing in me will never die….John 11:25-26
